Also called: role prompting, write for whom
Telling the model who the output is for — and, optionally, what perspective to write from — so tone, vocabulary, and depth fit the reader.
The same facts land differently for a worried patient, a busy executive, or a ten-year-old. Naming the audience is a fast, reliable lever on quality.
Role-play as a source of expertise — see role-prompting-limits. Saying 'you are a doctor' sets tone but does not make the content medically reliable.
