Transparency obligations

Also called: disclosure duties, labelling requirements

DEFINITION

Even outside high-risk, the AI Act requires transparency in specific cases — telling people when they're interacting with an AI system, and marking synthetic (AI-generated or manipulated) media such as deepfakes.

WHY IT MATTERS

These duties reach ordinary chatbots and content tools, not just heavy industrial systems. Disclosure and content-marking are becoming baseline expectations, legally and reputationally.

COMMONLY CONFUSED WITH

General transparency as a value. Here it's a specific legal duty in defined situations, with its own timelines.
